Cast Your Anxiety on Him

1 Peter 5:6-7 — Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
There is a reason Peter ties casting your anxiety to humbling yourself. We think of worry as a feeling that happens to us, something outside our control. But underneath most of our anxiety is a quiet form of pride — the belief that everything depends on us, that if we stop holding it all together, it will fall apart.

Peter says the opposite. Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God. Admit that you are not the one keeping the world spinning. And then do the thing that humility makes possible: hand the weight to Someone stronger.

Casting is a deliberate act

The word Peter uses is not a gentle setting-down. It is a throw. You cast your anxiety the way a fisherman casts a net — with intent, releasing it fully, letting it leave your hand. This is not something that happens to you passively while you wait to feel better. It is a choice you make, often before the feeling changes at all.

Most of us pray about our worries and then quietly pick them back up on the way out of the room. Casting means you actually let go. You name the thing that is crushing you, you speak it to God, and you refuse to carry it home again.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Because He cares for you

Here is the reason the whole verse turns on. You can cast your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. Not because He is obligated. Not because you have earned His attention. Because He genuinely cares.

The God who holds the galaxies in place is not too busy for the thing that kept you awake last night. He is not annoyed by your fear. He invites it. The same hand that is mighty enough to exalt you at the proper time is tender enough to hold what you are afraid of right now.

So bring it to Him today. Not the polished version — the real one. And leave it there.
