His Mercy Is New Every Morning

Today's scripture

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:22-23

Lamentations 3:22-23The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
It is worth remembering where these words come from. Lamentations is a book of grief. Jeremiah is weeping over a ruined city, over loss so heavy it has its own name. And right in the middle of that sorrow, he says this: the mercies of God are new every morning.

This is not the optimism of someone whose life is going well. This is hope spoken from the bottom. And that makes it the kind of hope you can actually stand on.

You do not draw from yesterday’s supply

Notice that the mercy is new. Not recycled. Not a portion left over from before. Every single morning, God sets out a fresh supply — enough for that day, matched to that day’s trouble.

Many believers live under the weight of yesterday. Yesterday’s failure, yesterday’s doubt, yesterday’s sin. But the mercy that met you yesterday has already done its work. This morning there is more, and it is new, and it has your name on it.

As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

Psalm 103:12

Great is His faithfulness

The reason the mercy keeps coming is not that you keep qualifying for it. It is that He is faithful. His steadfast love never ceases — that word steadfast means it is fixed, anchored, unmoved by your performance.

You will wake tomorrow to the same God you woke to today, with the same love, poured out fresh again. He does not tire of you. He does not run dry.

Whatever you are carrying into this day, receive the mercy that is already waiting for it. It is new. It is enough. And there will be more tomorrow.
