He Finishes What He Starts

Philippians 1:6 — And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
On the days when you feel like the least finished person you know, this verse is for you. Paul is not confident in the Philippians. He is confident in the God who is working on them. And that is a very different, far steadier kind of hope.

It was His work first

Notice who started it. He who began a good work in you. Your salvation was not your idea that God agreed to help with. He began it. He reached first, He drew first, He opened your eyes first. And a God who initiates is a God who follows through.

We would never trust a builder who laid a foundation and wandered off. God is not that builder. What He starts, He intends to complete. Your growth, your healing, the slow reshaping of your character into the likeness of Christ — that is His project, and He does not abandon His projects.

Being confident of this… the LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Completion is guaranteed, not immediate

Paul gives a finish line: the day of Jesus Christ. That means the work may not look finished today. You will still stumble. You will still find corners of your heart that are nowhere near done. That is not a sign He has quit. It is a sign the day has not yet come.

Be patient with the process, because He is patient with you. The same faithfulness that started the good work is the faithfulness carrying it forward right now, even on the days you cannot feel it.

You are not a finished work. You are a faithful God’s work in progress. And He always finishes what He starts.
