LOOK UNTO JESUS

If there is one thing every Christian must do every single day, it is to commit to following Jesus as Lord. What does that actually look like? Jesus being Lord is simply saying that He is the sole director of your life. He takes the utmost position of authority in your life to the degree where you don’t do what you want to do, but you do what He wants you to do. As I usually say, Jesus didn’t die for you and me so that we could live for ourselves, but He laid down His life so that you and I could live for Him. As you follow Him, remember that in every aspect of life, you face two choices: the way of Christ, the way of light, or the way of darkness. Whenever we choose to act according to our own desires instead of following Christ’s way, we fail to acknowledge Him as Lord in those areas of our lives. In those moments, we choose to rely on our own understanding rather than submitting to His authority. It is crucial, therefore, to truly make Jesus our Lord in all things.

That being said, you also need to know that Jesus helps His people as they follow Him. Christians are empowered by the Holy Spirit—Christ living within them—as their helper. Jesus Himself said, “Apart from me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5). We who follow Jesus need to constantly remember this. We can do nothing apart from Christ's help and power. That's why we have to always remember that our King is our helper, and without Him, we can do nothing. So focus on Him. The day you go on trying to do this by yourself is the day you are setting yourself up for terrible failure. Look unto the Savior. He has overcome it all. His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor. 12:9). When we are weak, He is strong. We need Him so desperately. It’s only when we rely on Him that we can gain the power to resist sin (Gal. 5:16) as well as to bear the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23). LOOK UNTO JESUS. It is important to understand that Jesus provides help to His followers as they walk with Him—a truth that we must continually keep in mind. We are entirely dependent on Christ’s strength and power to live faithfully.
